Ed’s note: In honor of Sunshine Week, in which media devote attention to the American ideal of public access, columnists Lu Bauer and Lane Hiltunen have written on the importance of public access to government records, meetings and procedure. Readers may be surprised to learn that Lu and Lane agree on something in the world of government, but like (hopefully) all Americans, they believe a strong democracy is build on public access and participation. For more information on Maine’s public access law check out the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition.
