Emily Croft, a senior at Cape Elizabeth High School, has been selected by the Maine Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International as the recipient of its Susanne M. M. Flagg Grant.
The Susanne M. M. Flagg Grant is awarded annually to a senior girl who is planning to pursue a career in education. This year the grant is $1,000. Delta Kappa Gamma is an honorary society of women teachers.
Croft has been a mentor of special needs students in Cape Elizabeth and Portland elementary schools. She has served with the STRIVE program for special needs teens and as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. She has worked as an aide in kindergarten classrooms and as a nursery supervisor at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
A member of the the varsity soccer and swim teams, Croft works part-time as a swim instructor, camp counselor and soccer coach for Cape Elizabeth Community Services. She is planning to attend the University of New Hampshire, where she is considering majoring in occupational therapy and classroom teaching.
