A CLOSER LOOK

Eighty percent of the proposed $2.9 million school budget is allocated for personnel costs. This includes a district-wide salary increase for staff (a 3 percent raise across the board), and a projected 15 percent increase in health benefits costs.

A total of $754,000 of the $2.9 million will go to new staff positions. The positions listed below have already been approved to include in the budget by the School Committee. Salaries listed are estimates and include cost of benefits. This list does not include positions that have been recommended but not yet approved for inclusion in the budget.

* Six full-time classroom teacher positions at $50,000 each – $300,000 (three at the K-2 level, one at the middle school, two at the high school)

* Social worker (K-2 level) – $50,000

* Part-time technology integrator (Wentworth) – $30,000

* Full-time educational technician for technology support (high school) – $25,000

* Part-time educational technician for study center (middle school) – $12,500

* Full-time guidance secretary (Wentworth) – $31,300

* Summer Math Academy (high school/middle school) – $35,000

Special Services

* Full-time resource room teacher (Wentworth) – $50,000

* Part-time speech and language therapist (Wentworth) – $25,000

* Part-time physical therapist (based on school need) – $25,000
