Thirty-three children and parents showed up Saturday, May 21, for a beach cleanup at Higgins Beach. The kids took to the beach for about 45 minutes and are shown here with their “trash stash.” The group benefited from the generosity of Rodney Laughton, proprietor of The Breakers, an oceanfront hotel in Higgins Beach. Laughton allowed the group to park in his yard, and then use his front lawn as a stage for this photo and others. Laughton even arranged for one hour of rain-free weather for the group. Following the beach cleanup, the kids and parents went down the street to a private home and played whiffle ball and had a rain-splattered cookout.
