Joe Thomas, state fire marshal, said Wednesday there are no new developments in the Dec. 7 arson of an apartment building on Gray Road in Windham.

In that fire, the building’s longtime owner, Donato Corsetti, was rescued after being bound by a material that authorities are unwilling to divulge, pending further investigation.

Corsetti was seen inside the building by an employee of the variety store he owns next door to the apartment. The employee went into the building and pulled him to safety. Officials haven’t released why Corsetti was in the building.

Two women and a baby were also in the rear-unit of the three-unit apartment building at the time of the fire. All managed to escape with no injuries. Corsetti, the former publisher of the Windham Independent and a well-known resident, was treated and released from Maine Medical Center for smoke inhalation and bruises on his forehead. – John Balentine
