Green Independents seeking caucus conveners

According to Maine Green Independent Party Chair Nate Shea, municipal caucus conveners are needed. To date, MGIP does not have a convener in New Gloucester.

The procedure for convening a caucus is outlined under the “Caucus 2012” tab of its website www.mainegreens.org. The checklist includes setting a date for the caucus, notifying the municipal clerk, requesting a voter list from the clerk, informing enrolled Green Independents about the caucus, providing public notice (fliers, newspaper ads), holding the caucus and reporting caucus data to MGIP Steering Committee afterward. For assistance or to report your interest in the process, contact Shea at 699-1321 or [email protected].

Dance! Fitness for Fun

“Dance! Fitness for Fun” classes will be sponsored by New Gloucester’s Recreation Department and taught by Heather Denton. An energetic mix of music designed to be fun and flexible for a variety of participants will provide the motivation for these 45- to 50-minute classes.

Each class starts with an easy-to-follow warm-up track followed by seven to eight tracks of varying intensity designed to be modified for all levels of fitness and dance experience. It’s not about being a great dancer; it’s about enjoying movement that gets the heart pumping. Each session ends with a cool-down track to ease the heart rate down.

The focus of the class is to have a great time while increasing cardiovascular fitness. The moves can be modified for different levels of fitness and ability so that each participant can safely enjoy the moves and music. The music is drawn from several genres from pop to Latin, to hip-hop and R&B.

Classes will be held on Mondays, Feb. 13 and 27, March 5, 19, 26 and April 2 at the New Gloucester Community Building behind Town Hall. Classes start at 7:15 p.m. Sign up for the whole session for $25 or drop into a class for $7. Please make checks payable to New Gloucester Recreation. No cash please. Note that participants must fill out a registration form and payment is required. For more information, contact Harvey Price Jr., New Gloucester Recreation Director at 926-4126 ext. 231 or [email protected].
