River dredging

getting under way

The New England District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has recently awarded a contract to dredge the channel and anchorage of the Royal River Federal Navigation Project in Yarmouth. Dredging is scheduled to start Oct. 1 and finish up by April 1, 2015. The dredged sediment will be placed at the Portland Disposal Site, about 15 nautical miles from the mouth of the Royal River.

The contractor is being required to use a specific route when traveling to and from the dredged material placement site. A map of the designated haul route can be viewed at http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/Missions/ProjectsTopics/RoyalRiver.aspx. All fishing gear must be removed from 200 feet either side of the specified haul route centerline to avoid damage to or loss of fishing gear. For more information about the project, contact Michael Walsh, project manager, at (978) 318-8586.
