Special town meeting Oct. 28
A special town meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Durham Community School, to vote on repealing the town’s building code and adopting the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code. Another article seeks to amend the town’s Durham Addressing Ordinance to identify the “addressing authority” as the codes enforcement officer. The warrant is available at the town office or at www.durhamme.com.
Moderator needed
Durham is looking for someone who would like to be the moderator for town meetings.
It is an unpaid position with training available. For more information, call the town office, 353-2561.
Selectmen’s meetings
The Durham Board of Selectmen is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Nov. 4 and Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Office.
Absentee ballots available
Absentee voting ends Thursday, Oct. 30. To request an absentee ballot come in or call town office at 353-2561, ext. 11. Voters that want a ballot must request their own ballot.
Polls are open on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at Durham Community School, 654 Hallowell Road. Voters are asked to park in the upper parking lot closest to town office and enter side door. Parking for the handicapped is directly in front of school and they can enter through main lobby.

Eureka Center seeks floor bids
The Durham Eureka Center is currently seeking bids to replace the flooring at the center. For more information, contact Nancy Decker at 75-1323.
Bottle drive benefit set
Durham Boy Scout Troop 145 and Cub Scout Pack 145 will be holding a bottle drive on Saturday, Nov. 1.
All proceeds will be used to support the Durham Giving Tree. Scouts will be going around for collections or bottles can be dropped off at the AMVETS that morning from 9 – noon. For large quantities or to make arrangements for pick up, call Joe Howe at 353-9110.
Warm Winter Walk coming
Warm Winter Walk 3 will be held Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m., starting at the First Congregational Church, Route 136 in Durham. Proceeds will be split 25:75 between the church and Durham Heating Assistance. Participants in the event are urged to get pledges from family and friends to raise money for the community event and the church. Bikes and strollers are welcome, and water and snacks will be provided. The walk route, which is 5.3 miles, goes from Route 136, left onto Davis Road, left
onto Chesley Road, left onto Runaround Pond Road, straight onto Rabbit Road, right onto 136 (Royalsborough), No. 1289, the first house on right across from the inn.

Halloween bash
Durham’s Harvest Costume Party, a benefit for AMVETs, is Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8 p.m.-midnight, at the Durham Town Hall. There will be prizes for games, and, of course, costumes,which are not mandatory but definitely encouraged. Bring a carved pumpkin and enter in the contest for Best Pumpkins. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
DJ Chad Burke from www.yourmainedj.com will provide music. Munchies will be provided and non-alcoholic beverages will be for sale. This is a party for over 21. Attendees can bring their own alcohol. IDs will be requested from those in question. Prices are $8 per person or $12 per couple in advance, or $10 per person or $15 per couple at the door.
All proceeds will be donated to the AMVETS to help them stay open during the winter months and continue to offer their facility to residents.

Snowmobile club meets monthly
The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets on the last Tuesday of each month from September to April. Meetings are held at the Durham fire station, 615 Hallowell Road, Durham, beginning at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 28. New members are always welcome. Chicken barbecue on for Nov. 1
The First Congregational Church of Durham will host a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 4:30-6 p.m. On the menu are barbecue chicken, salads, rolls, pies and beverage. The cost is $9 for those 13 and older, $3 for kids 6-12 and free for kids under 5.

Students get archery instruction
For the second year in a row, the Durham Rod and Gun Club hosted 11 honor students from Mount Ararat Middle School.
The all-female group, accompanied by some of their parents, was instructed in the basics of recurve bow archery shooting, including range safety and a sampling of bow hunting techniques. Instruction was provided by several club members, including two state certified archery instructors. Afterward, the students made the round of the club’s 3-D game target course, ending with a competitive shootout by the club’s pond. The majority of the students will be entering their freshman year at Mount Ararat High School in 2015 and hope to be accepted into the school’s archery club, a Junior Olympic Archery Development Club registered with the National Archery Association.
With a major emphasis on safety, the Durham Rod and Gun Club is dedicated to the preservation of Maine’s outdoor sporting heritage, and through education, club events, youth outreach, women and family involvement, encourages and fosters a higher appreciation of Maine’s natural resources.

Pay taxes online
The town of Durham, through a partnership with Androscoggin Bank, now offers taxpayers the opportunity to pay their property taxes online from home, work, or any other convenient location, using e-checks, credit or debit cards.
E-checks/ACH (automated clearing house)/checking account: Residents will need to provide their account number and the bank’s routing number to pay by this method. A check image is available during the payment process to assist in locating this information. There will be a $1 processing fee assessed.
Credit/debit cards: The town accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards. There will be a 2.95 percent processing fee assessed per transaction with a minimum charge of $1.95 for credit cards. All Visa debit card transactions are $3.95. A card image is available during the payment process to assist in locating card information. To use this service go to the Durham website and click on Pay Taxes (at top of page in quick links) or under Online Services click Pay Real Estate Taxes. The resident’s account number from the tax bill will be needed.
Griefshare changes day
Griefshare, a 13-week support group for those who have lost a loved one, facilitated by Pastor Ron Parker, now meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., through Dec. 29, at the Shiloh Chapel Fellowship Hall main church building. Christmas fair tables available
The North Pownal United Methodist Church is hosting a Christmas Fair on Dec. 5 and 6 at the church, and there are a limited amount of rental tables available. The rental fee is $25 per table. Crafters wanted for PTA fair
The Durham Community School PTA is looking for local crafters to participate in the fourth annual PTA craft fair.

Rent Eureka Center
The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. Contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561.
Cribbage, couponing
The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.
Couponing for the Community meets at the Community Center every other Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It is a chance to learn couponing basics including where/how to find and collect coupons; how to organize them; and how to begin using them. Pat Provost heads this project with the hopes that some of the skills acquired will be used to give back to the community by helping families in need.
Food pantry
The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank.
