Kudos to Bill Gelinas and Brian Mclellan of Gelinas HVAC for bringing to light the town’s purchasing agents’ policies of non-support of Scarborough’s businesses.

We, too ,would like a prompt answer to his complaint of April 11 filed with the town manager. Why was the contract awarded to a Fortune 100 company? Do they have any property ties or business ties to Scarborough?

This is one example of the town not supporting local businesses. How many other businesses are overlooked in this same manner? How many other contracts have gone out of town or out of state? Is there a written policy for soliciting bids on various town contracts? If not, there should be one stating: Support locally owned and operated Scarborough businesses first.

We are Scarborough residents for over 65-plus years and buy locally. We use the services of a local hairdresser, farm stands, manicurist, massage therapist, hardware store, doctor, lawyer, variety store, restaurants, seafood market, etc.
