Music festival coming Saturday

The second Royal River Music Fest will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., at Royal River Park. Music will be performed by the Jason Spooner Band, Gunther Brown, Armies, Gather Rounders, The Loose Threads, Gorilla Finger, Downeast Soul Coalition, The Delta Knights, Jenny Jumpstart and The Hadacol Bouncers. There also will be kids’ activities, and food trucks on site will sell a variety of selections. The event is free.

Hazwaste collection set for Aug. 29

Yarmouth residents are invited to participate in a household hazardous waste collection day, Saturday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., at the North Road Fire Station. Residents can bring 5 gallons for 10 pounds of materials at no charge. Among the iems that can be collected are fiber resins, photo chemicals, chemistry sets, furniture polish, solvents, oil-based paints, stains, wood preservatives, paint strippers, aerosol cans, adhesives, fuels, engine degreasers, car wax, roofing tar, pool chemicals, insecticides, weed killers and flea control products.

Products not allowed include motor oil, antifreeze, tires, batteries, smoke detectors, latex paint, TVs, computers, fluorescent lights and prescription medicines. For more information, call Erik Street at 846-2401 or see www.yarmouth.me.us.

Art sought for use by town

The town is looking for photographs or artwork of Yarmouth that can be donated for use on the town of Yarmouth website, Facebook or other media such as newsletters and town report. It can be of any scene, event or activity around town any season. Photographs should be digital and of high resolution (preferably not from a phone camera). Reading group choices listed

Merrill Memorial Library has announced its selections for upcoming Readers Circle book discussions. The group meets the last Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. The books chosen are: “The Luncheon of the Boating Party,” by Susan Vreeland, Sept. 24; “Sacre Bleu,” by Christopher Moore, Oct. 29; “The Soloist,” by Mark Salzman, Nov. 19; and “World to Come,” by Dara Horn, Jan. 28, 2016 (no program in December). Movie Night

Merrill Memorial Library, 215 Main St., will show the animated comedy, “Home,” Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m.

Farmers market

The Mill Street Market is open Thursdays from about 3-6 p.m., through Sept. 24, outside 317 Main Community Music Center on the corner of Mill and Main streets. The farmers market will offer fresh produce, local seafood, Maple’s Gelato, cut flowers, pies and more, as well as to live acoustic music. There also will be arts and crafts for kids.
