The Scarborough Athletic Council is in jeopardy and may be dissolved without immediate help. The council operates with a small core group, most of whom are moving on with their seniors at the end of this school year. If others in town don’t step up now, this may be its last year, council officials say.

The group is not tied to a specific sport. Revenue generated from basketball concession sales, a spring Comedy Night and yearly membership dues help fund senior athletic scholarships and athletics-related purchases.

Last year the council awarded a total of $12,350 to 19 graduates. In addition, it recently gave $4,000 to the Scarborough Athletic Department, which was used to support the school’s new trophy case.

There is a place for anyone interested in helping out, whether it’s for a one-time event or attending council meetings, which occur weekly in the winter months.

To find out more, call the athletic department at 730-5012 or email Mike LeGage, the athletic director at [email protected].
