Flags Around Town will soon be taken down for another year. The flags will be carefully inspected, cleaned as necessary and those beyond service will be properly retired. This cycle of flag display from Memorial Day to Labor Day on the highways of Windham has been going on for 11 years, courtesy of the American Legion Field-Allen Post 148, the town of Windham and the local business community.
This year the Legion solicited the Windham business community with a request for financial support to continue this great show of patriotism. The Post goal was to raise $2,000 to replace aging hardware for the program. To date the Post has raised $1,800 towards that goal with grateful contributions from the following generous members of the business community.
I would like to specifically recognize the following businesses for their generosity: Hairobics, Windham Rental Center, C.R. Tandberg, Tandberg Trails Association, Shaw Brothers and Family, Hall Implements Inc., Richardson’s Boat Yard, Coldwell Bankers, Pat’s Pizza (JMA Enterprises), Essentials Massage Service, Patman’s Redemption Center, Sebago Automotive, Mainely Ticks, The Hair Studio, Gilbert’s Chowder House, Milliken Perkins & Brunelle and American Mattress. Thank you one and all for your support!
I’m sure there are more funds in the pipeline, and I will recognize those donations accordingly. It is not too late to contribute. Checks may be made out to American Legion Post 148 and sent to P.O. Box 1776, Windham, Maine 04062.
New flags will be back up for Memorial Day 2017. Thank you again for the support.
