Desjardins retires from Westbrook PD
The Westbrook Police Department congratulates Detective Sgt. John Desjardins on his retirement. He joined the department on May 5, 1996, and retired Sept. 22. He will be sworn in as a lieutenant with the Kittery Police Department, the second in command, on Oct. 3. Desjardins held a variety of positions during his career with Westbrook, including patrol officer, drug investigator, detective, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant and firearms instructor.
Voting info for residents
In order to register to vote in Westbrook, you must meet the following criteria:
You must be a citizen of the United States.
You must be 18 years of age. A 17 year-old may register to vote and is eligible to vote in a primary election or municipal caucus if the person will turn 18 years of age by the date of the next General Election.
You must be a resident of of Westbrook.
You can register to vote in one of three ways: in person at City Hall, by mail or at the polls on Election Day. For additional information about registering to vote, or to request a voter registration card to complete by mail, contact the City Clerk’s Office, 2 York St., 591-8116.
Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 19, residents who wish to register to vote must appear in person at the City Clerk’s Office or must register for vote at his/her polling location on Election Day. No mailed-in applications will be accepted.
Drug Take Back Day coming Oct. 22
The Westbrook Police Department is taking part in the National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Public Safety Building, 570 Main St. This is an excellent opportunity to clean out the medicine cabinet and dispose of any medication that could be abused or stolen. Hypodermic needles cannot be accepted. There also will be an alternate site at the Community Policing Center, 192 Brown St. Residents of the Frenchtown neighborhood can drop off their unused medication between 9 a.m. and noon. This will coincide with one of the “Coffee With A Cop” events, to be held at the Community Policing Center during this time

Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., has a full schedule for October.
The Youth Services weekly and monthly programs include:
Toddler Storytime every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m., stories, fingerplays, songs, and dancing for ages 2-5.
Baby & Me Lapsit every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., stories, rhymes, and songs for ages 0-2 with their caregivers.
Anime Club the first Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m., snack, watch anime, and talk with other anime buffs, for ages 12-plus.
Crafternoon the third Wednesday of the month from 2-4 p.m., crafts of all types, new craft each month, for ages 5-plus.
Weekly and monthly programs for adults include:
Tech Time, every Wednesday 10 a.m.-noon, bring your device and we’ll help you set it up and troubleshoot issues.
Adult coloring drop-in, every second Tuesday, 1-5 p.m., relax, chat, color in-or-outside the lines. Coloring pages, pencils and markers provided, or bring your own.
Noon Book Club, every third Tuesday, noon-1 p.m., October book is “Welcome to Braggsville,” by T. Geronimo Johnson.
