Bypass to close to traffic
for bridge dedication
The Bernard P. Rines Bypass will be closed from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov.17, between the Route 25 roundabout/Ossipee Trail and the Route 202 roundabout/Narragansett Street for a bridge dedication ceremony.
The former Flaggy Meadow Road Bridge will be renamed the Corporal Joshua P. Barron Memorial Bridge.
Traffic will be closed in both directions on the bypass with traffic detoured on Cressey Road.
63 percent turnout
in town for election
Town Clerk Laurie Nordfors reports the total number of voters in the Nov. 6 election was 9,009 of 14,352 registered voters, representing a 63 percent turnout.
Nordfors said that 596 registered at the polls and 2,909 cast absentee ballots. In the gubernatorial race, Gorham voters favored Shawn Moody over Janet Mills 4,424 to 4,039.
Senior groups at First Parish
The Lecky Brown Senior Center at First Parish Congregational Church hosts three groups weekly.
They are: Spin Me a Yarn, a knitting/yarn group that meets at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays; The Originals at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays for coffee, conversation and a speaker; and Artrageous, 10 a.m. on Fridays, watercolor techniques.

Tradition carries on
The Cosmopolitan Club, founded in 1896, is still active today and seeks members.
The club began with dedication to the idea that Gorham women are interested in world affairs, music, travel, science, arts and other cultural activities. It regularly meets in homes or the First Parish Church for fellowship and to learn from one another.

U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Nov. 8 that the U.S. public debt was $21,733,425,227,728.46.
