The Mites took on Wells last Saturday, Oct. 15, at their home field in Westbrook.

The A team had a hard time getting through Wells’ defensive line. The defense for Westbrook’s A team had 53 tackles for the game with Tony Bongomin, Jayden Johnson and Apollo Bartlett making 26 combined tackles. The score was 18-0 Wells.

The Mites B team had 197 rushing yards for the day. Mitchell Violette and Cortlin Edgerly were both able to run the ball over 80 yards each, also scoring touchdowns for the team. The defense worked together to get 30 tackles for the day.  Edgerly led the defense with six tackles and 1 sack for the game. The final score was 20-12 Wells, but the Mites are looking for better results next week in York.

The Pee Wee Blazes also faced off against Wells at home in two hard-fought defensive battles. Westbrook’s improved defensive play seemed to be sparked by hard hits that led to forced fumbles. Big Ben Eugley set the tone of the day by a pounding hit on a Wells running back behind the line of scrimmage. Ben had four tackles and a sack on the day. Aiden Taylor matched Ben with his four tackles and a sack as well as adding a fumble recovery. Carter Dow had an outstanding day on defense as he added 14 tackles and four sacks on the day as well as two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Steven White and Gavin Tanner had five tackles each, and Cai’ Shawn Alston had three hard hitting tackles. Jared Fickett, Carson Dow and Damen Chandler chipped in two tackles each.

Offensively, the Pee Wee’s rushing game was led by Steven White’s 101 rushing yards and touchdown. Jackson Sanders added 42 yards on the ground as Aiden Taylor chipped in 15 yards and a few big blocks. Under center for the Blazes was Ryan Francheschi who rushed for a 2-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Ryan had an outstanding 14-yard throw to his favorite wide receiver, Sean Johnson, on a 4th and 12, which put the team in scoring position. Blocking for the 6th grade Blazes were Dom Brunner, Jared Fickett, Ben Eugley, Jefferson Sines, Carson Dow, Carter Dow and Damon Chandler. This group is improving each game and are really fun to watch. Westbrook Pee Wee’s won the first game 14-8 and improved their record to 4-1.

In the second Pee Wee game of the day, the 5th grade Blazes demonstrated another defensive game as well as an air attack on offense. Leading the defense was Owen Pilsbury who recorded 10 tackles and a sack on the day. Jackson Young had three tackles and a sack and Quinton LeClerc had two tackles and a sack. Connor Boulette had three tackles as did Thomas Lewis and Anthony Rogers. Mohammad Mousa, Christian Harvey, Lance Basinet and Zach Jalbert contributed two tackles each. Brady Harvie added two tackles and an interception on the day.

Offensively, the passing game was led by Harvie who threw for two touchdowns on the day. Lewis caught the first touchdown for 38 yards, and Boulette caught the second for 13 yards. Young scored a two-point conversion. Harvie threw for 93 yards on the day. Boulette caught two  passes for 19 yards, Young caught two for 36 yards, and Lewis added his 38 yards. This passing attack was complemented by the yards on the ground. Young ran for 41 yards, Harvey for 25, Godfrey Nyekoraoh for 8 and Jalbert added 4 yards on the ground. Wade Leavitt, Conrad Sargent, Mohammad Mousa, Quinton LeClerc, Anthony Vasquez, Molly Mitchell, Pilsbury, Basinet, Harvey and Liam Hall all took turns blocking for the offense and because of them, Westbrook was able to stay with the chains for most of the day and own the clock. Westbrook won 14-6.
