Applications for Thanksgiving assistance are due back no later than Thursday, Nov. 10. The forms will be distributed in the elementary school totes as well as through the electronic school email and can be picked up as well as dropped off at the elementary schools, the Gray Public Library and Gray Town Hall in the designated CCGNG boxes. The application forms will also be available at the middle school and high school guidance offices.

Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor – to adopt a family/individual and provide all the fixings for a holiday meal – for Thanksgiving can contact Kathy George at [email protected]; for Christmas, contact Mike Marcotte at [email protected].

Annual Holly Fair
First Congregational Church of Gray annual Holly Fair on Saturday, Nov.19, in the Parish House, Brown Street, behind McDonald’s, in Gray Center, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

There will be a movie and cookie decorating for children. Early shoppers can enjoy Thompson’s donuts and coffee.

A lunch of haddock chowder, corn chowder and a variety of sandwiches, all made by Women’s Fellowship, will be available.

On Thursday, Nov.17, a blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gray New Gloucester High School, 10 Libby Hill Road, Gray.

Boston Post Cane
The town is accepting nominations for a Boston Post Cane recipient. If you know anyone living in Gray that was born before 1922, please complete a Boston Post Cane nomination form at the town office or online at www.graymaine.org/bpc-nomination. All nominations must be received by Monday, Nov. 28, by 4 p.m.

School craft offerings
The Russell School Craft Fair will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Gray – New Gloucester High School.

Volunteer award nominations
Each year, Gray recognizes and celebrates the folks who are the backbone of the community, the dedicated volunteers. The Gray Town Council encourages and welcomes nominations from Gray citizens who wish to recognize other community members for their volunteer contributions as they relate to the five categories of awards: Volunteer of the Year, Committee of the Year, Organization of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and Evelyn Morrill Durgin Award. Nomination forms are available at the town office. The deadline for nominations will be in late November; the specific date will be announced later. The nominations will be reviewed in early December.

Bike and Run
Libby Hill’s second Annual Duathlon Allterra Bike and Run will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Libby Hill Forest, Gray, with a 10 a.m. start. The entry fee is $35; G-NG kids can participate for free. There will be awards for top male and female finishers. Post-race food and beverages will be provided. For more information, go to www.libbyhill.org.

• American Red Cross Babysitting Course – Class will focus on injury prevention, first aid, basic child care, decision making and other issues. To be held Dec. 10, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., for ages 11-15, at Pennell Town Hall.
• Footskillz – Soccer with Coach Kiaran McCormack, former professional player, college, premier and high school coach. Emphasis is on technical development in a fun atmosphere with 100s of touches on the ball. Space is limited, register early. Pre K/K: five weeks, $40, Mondays 3:15-4 p.m., Nov. 7, 14, 21, 28, Dec. 5, Memorial Gym; 1st/2nd Grade: five weeks, $50, Tuesdays 3:15-4:15, Nov. 8, 15, 22, 29, Dec. 6, Dunn Gym; 3rd/4th Grade: the non-consecutive weeks, $45, Wednesdays, Nov. 9, Nov 30, Dec. 7, Dunn Gym.
• Nerf Night – Walls and barriers will be set up for team battles and organized chaos. Bring your Nerf gun (one that shoots standard darts), eye protection and a water bottle. All darts will be supplied. Prizes will be awarded for some of the contests. On Nov. 4, Grades 1-2, 6 -7:30 p.m.; Nov. 18: Grades 6-8, 6-7:30 p.m.; Dec. 2, Grades 4-5, 6-7:30 p.m.; Dec. 16; Grades 3-4, 6-7:30 p.m. The fee is $15 for each session at Newbegin Gym. Parents welcome to watch on stage.
• Patriots Jr. Basketball – The season consists of seven Saturdays at Newbegin Gym. The first three sessions cover the basic fundamentals of basketball with the remaining four sessions designated for games. Players will be placed on balanced teams of boys and girls. No basketball experience necessary. The season offers experienced staff, enthusiastic coaching, skill building, team concepts, reduced size basketballs and hoop levels and more. Nov. 12-19, Dec. 3-10-17 and Jan. 7 and 14. The cost is $47 per player  and includes team t-shirt. Players in first grade will meet at either 8:30 or 9:30 a.m., kindergarten will meet at either 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. and second graders will meet at either 12:30 or 1:30 p.m. (When games kick in, time may change slightly).

Wildlife Park honors veterans
The last day of the season at the Maine Wildlife Park, Route 26 in Gray, will be Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11. On that day, U.S. military personnel and their immediate family members will receive free admission. The park opens at 9:30.For more information, call 657-4977, ext. 0.

Holiday closure
The Gray Town Offices will be closed Friday, Nov.11, in honor of Veterans Day.
