The marching band at South Portland High School received its 11th straight Gold Medal at the state finals held on Oct. 29 at Thornton Academy in Saco.

The 80-member Red Riot band was led by Drum Major Owen Doane, a senior, and assistant Drum Major Andy LeBlanc, a junior.

Under the direction of Craig Skeffington, the band performed a series of tunes from popular movies, which were composed by Alan Silvestri.

Eleven other bands from Maine and New Hampshire also participated in the event, overseen by the Maine Band Director’s Association.

South Portland’s drill design was by Craig Scott. The performance also featured the Color Guard, led by captain Rachel Currie, a sophomore, and soloists Ellen Stanton, a senior, and Jesse Pearlman, a junior.
