Seventh graders at Westbrook Middle School received a special visit April 14 from banking professionals at Northeast Bank. The students spent their last day before April school break learning about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship through hands-on games and activities. The lessons were part of Junior Achievement of Maine’s JA in a Day events and about 200 students participated. Norm and Donna Conley will present a program about their visit during the winter to Galveston, Texas, when Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

Seniors to meet

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1, at the  Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

A husband and wife duet, “Salem Street,” will entertain.

The seniors will hit the road Sept. 11-14 to Wildwood Crest, a resort, in Cape May, N.J. For more information about the trip, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.

Youth football sign-up deadline nears

The deadline for Westbrook Youth Football registration is Monday, June 12, for its coed youth programs and the Westbrook Middle School program for grades 7 and 8.

The cost for the tackle program for kids in grades 3-6 is $110 per child plus a $25 equipment deposit. The program is divided in to two groups – grades 3-4 and grades 5-6.

The flag program, K-2, costs $70 per child. “The goal of our flag program is to provide an opportunity for all young boys and girls to play in an organized, non-contact football league,” the group said.

The middle school program is free.

Requests for scholarships must be in by June 1. Registrations and payments are available on line by visiting www.westbrookyouthfootball.com.

Students show talents

Guitar solos, dancing, singing and other performances will be part of a talent show at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Westbrook High School. The cost is $5 for students and $7 for adults.

Taxes coming due

Westbrook’s next and final 2016-2017 quarterly real estate tax payment will be due on Monday, May 15.
