Tips for success

The annual Tips for Charity luncheon during the Festival of Trees in 2017 raised $5,475, the most in the 17-year history of the event.

Organizer Roberta Morrill said luncheon ticket sales generated $1,430 and tips brought in $4,045.

“Many Westbrook citizens, who are either serviced from the Westbrook Food Pantry or the Westbrook Good Samaritan Fund, will certainly be benefited this year,” Morrill said.

“It is interesting to note that since the Festival of Trees began in 2001, the festival has donated $77,000 to the charities in our Westbrook community,” she said.

Public safety rescues Christmas

Annemarie Hebert of Westbrook recently told of Westbrook public safety personnel at the Route 302 fire station saving Christmas Day for her and family.

Hebert was traveling towards Windham in whiteout conditions on Christmas when a windshield wiper malfunctioned. “I didn’t know what to do,” she said.

She decided to pull into the fire station yard where several firefighters came to the rescue. Hebert said a firefighter pulled an extra wiper from his own truck and installed it on her vehicle.

“These are quality people,” she said.

“They seriously saved our Christmas Day,” Hebert said.

Historians to meet

The Westbrook Historical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.
