From the Journal Tribune: “History buffs enjoyed the second installment in a series of lectures Thursday night presented at the Dyer Library featuring facts, history and stories about the culture of the Shakers. … Thursday’s lecture was given by Leonard L. Brooks, director of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum and focused on the role of Shakers in the American Revolution.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Biddeford voters will go to the polls Tuesday to accept or reject a proposed new city charter. The referendum vote by the people follows passage of the charter by the 102nd Legislature. … While no organized opposition appears in the field the general thinking is that the question will be defeated.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Superintendent of Public Schools Royal E. Gould is being kepy busy these days looking after young would-be wage-earners, examining applicants for cards that will allow them to work in the mills and other manufactories in the city, this in accordance with the state law, passed at the last legislature and that goes into effect next Monday. It is estimated that there are between 175 and 200 boys and girls who have been holding cards and who will come under the new law.”
