BANGOR (AP) — The Bangor State Fair is in full swing with more than 60,000 people expected to head to Maine’s Queen City for carnival games, livestock shows and a demolition derby.

The event began Friday and runs until Aug. 9. It is an agricultural and recreational event that draws people from the Bangor area and the rest of the state. The fair takes place at Bass Park, which is the land around Cross Insurance Center.

The fair will also include rides, steer and ox pulling, fireworks, truck pulls and food eating competitions.

State officials say the Bangor State Fair dates back to at least 1883.
