BIDDEFORD — Franklin Alonzo Garon Jr. currently of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and formerly of Clinton, Connecticut, passed away on July 28, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer.
Frank was born on Aug. 16, 1947, in Biddeford, and is the son of the late Margie and Franklin Garon Sr.
Frank is survived by: his beloved wife of 35 years, Laurel Garon, also of Cocoa Beach, Florida; his two children and their spouses, Todd and Kimberly Garon of South Windsor, Connecticut, and Renee and Steve Sandone of Windsor Locks, Connecticut; two stepchildren, Daniel Laseter and Jennifer LaChapelle; his grandchildren, Adam and Nathan Sandone, Rebecca Poor, and Timothy LaChappelle, and Alexis and Abilgail Laseter; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by: his sister and brother-in-law, Lori Garon and Timothy Cloudman of Cumberland Foreside; and his sister, June Lynch of Somers, Connecticut.
He is preceded in death by: a younger brother, Thomas Garon. And any who knew Frank would understand mentioning that he is also survived by his trusty sidekick, Pearl ”“ his dog.
Frank graduated from East Windsor High School in 1965, where he served as senior class president. Upon graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he trained as a sonar specialist.
Upon leaving the Navy, he was hired by Southern New England Telephone Company and enjoyed a successful career throughout the many transitions and iterations of the telecommunications industry.
A natural-born leader and consensus builder, his career path eventually led from the vice presidency of the Connecticut Union Of Telephone Workers to a Labor Relations Manager for AT&T Mobility, where he advocated at various times for both employees and the corporation. In addition, he served many years with the Connecticut Jaycees and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also was an involved citizen, serving as a Republican campaign chair for many elected politicians in Connecticut.
After a life devoted to his work, sadly, he had just retired from AT&T after 48 years of service on March 31 of this year.
Although family, work and his pet dogs were most important, speaking of him would not be complete without mentioning that he was a diehard New York Yankees fan ”“ much to the chagrin of most of his family and friends, who fall squarely in the Boston Red Sox camp.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, Aug. 2 from 2-4 p.m. at the Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, Cocoa Beach, Florida.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church, Cocoa Beach, Florida.
There will also be a celebration of Frank’s life in his home state of Connecticut at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Florida Wildlife Hospital and Sanctuary. Frank’s guestbook may be signed at www.beckman-williamson.com.
