SACO — Police here have charged three men with heroin-related crimes following a week-long undercover investigation after receiving a tip from a neighboring community.

And while the dollar value of the drugs seized isn’t large because of the relatively low cost of heroin these days, Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland said the 6.3 grams of heroin seized represents “a considerable amount” of product.

Scarborough Police tipped off their Saco counterparts last week to possible drug activity at a Portland Road (Route 1) cottage in Saco, said Holland in a news release.

On Thursday, undercover police saw a man leave the home at 1036 Portland Road, walk to a vehicle and make a suspected drug transaction. Police then stopped that vehicle, and arrested Kenny Burke, 34, of 137 New Road in Arundel and charged him with Class C felony possession of scheduled drugs and violating conditions of release, a misdemeanor. Holland said police found heroin, needles and cash in his vehicle. He was taken to York County Jail and is held without bail because of the violating charge. Holland said police will also seek to charge Burke with operating under influence of drugs and operating after suspension.

Then, armed with a search warrant, police searched the cottage at 1036 Portland Road and seized 6.3 grams of heroin, packing materials, needles and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Arrested and charged with Class A felony aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs were Aleksei N. Legendre, 24, who was listed as living at the cottage, and Abdoul Aziz Mounion, 26, of Brooklyn, New York. A bail commissioner set bail at $25,000 cash for each of the two men and they were taken to jail.

Class C felonies carry a maximum prison of term of five years, upon conviction. Class A crimes carry a maximum prison term of 30 years.

Holla-nd said arresting the three meant a “good day” for police.

“We’re happy to get any amount (of drugs) off the streets,” he said.
