“FAME” will be on stage for one night only at the Maine State Music Theatre on June 15 at 7:30 p.m. The cast includes members of MSMT’s Education Fellowship Program and local Maine actors. The Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off its 83rd season with the Broadway musical comedy “Sister Act,” on stage through June 20. The musical is based on the hit Whoopi Goldberg film about a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in a convent. The playhouse welcomes Broadway’s Rashidra Scott in the role of Deloris Van Cartier. Mad Horse Theatre presents the 6th “By Local” play series. The upcoming series will take place June 4-8. “The Scarlett Letter,” a musical, will appear Thursday, June 4 and Saturday June 6. “Vision” will be shown Friday, June 5 and Monday, June 8. There will be no show on Sunday, June 7. All performances will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Mad Horse Theater, 24 Mosher St. in South Portland. “The Full Monty” will be on stage at Maine State Music Theatre from through June 20. The theater will hold “A Peek Behind The Curtain: The Full Monty” at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick on June 10 at noon. This discussion is free and panel participants will include actors, administrative staff, technical staff and members of the creative team. Audience participants will have an opportunity to learn about each member of the panel and ask questions about their involvement in the production. Audience members are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch for the event. The theater is located at Pickard Theatre on the Bowdoin College Campus in Brunswick. Maine State Ballet will offer summer dance workshops for students of all ages that will run through the summer. For serious ballet students in grades 5 and higher, Maine State Ballet offers an intensive summer program beginning July 6 with a comprehensive curriculum and weekly performance opportunities. The program runs daily from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes pointe, men’s class, variations, repertoire, partnering for advanced students, stretch, adagio, pirouettes, jazz, and modern. Students may register for any or all of the six weeks. One year of ballet training is required to participate. Maine State Ballet will also offer a pre-intensive program for dancers in third and fourth grade. This four day program runs from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and features a performance at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday of each session. The program includes ballet technique, jazz, and modern dance instruction and begins June 22. One year of ballet training is required to participate. For the youngest dancers, aged 4-7, Maine State Ballet offers 3-day workshops from 9:30 a.m to noon. Students will learn ballet, tap, jazz, and some singing with a performance on Thursdays at noon. The program begins June 23. All workshops take place in Maine State Ballet’s theater and classrooms at 348 U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth. “Sculpted Spaces, Historic Places,” a juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture, opens at Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, N.H., and the Sarah Orne Jewett House and Visitor Center in South Berwick on June 5. The exhibit was organized by two regional cultural organizations Historic New England and the New England Sculptors Association. The exhibit presents 43 sculptures from 36 artists working in granite, marble, metal, stone, tile, wood, and other material. The work will be on display in the historic rooms at Governor John Langdon House and on the grounds at both Langdon House and Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum and Visitor Center. The work of artist Lisa Roderick will be on display at the Wells Public Library for the month of June. There will be a free reception on Saturday, June 6 at 11 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and the artist will answer questions. Lisa Roderick is a resident of Ogunquit, and has been oil painting since 2009. She won third prize in the 37th Annual Ogunquit Sidewalk Art Show after painting for only two months, and is a member of the Maine Women in the Arts Association. “Paintings of Rescue Dogs” by Rachel Michaud will be on display at the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus Center from June 4 through July 2. A graphic designer by trade, Michaud is the volunteer web master of the Pixel Fund, a nonprofit organization in Maine dedicated to saving the lives of shelter pets through education, advocacy, rescue efforts and participation in community events. DaPonte String Quartet’s upcoming concert series entitled “Short and Sweet” will feature the music of seven composers through June 5. The 21st annual Chamber Music Festival will take place on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 at the Ogunquit Performing Arts at the Dunaway Center, 23 School St. in Ogunquit. Both performances take place at 8 p.m. Receptions to meet the musicians will follow. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door and $5 for students. The program features world-class musicians of Boston Chamber Music and Cascabel Trio.

The “Corona Brothers Beach Party” will take place on July 2 at 5 p.m. with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. at Goodall Park in Sanford. The show will feature the music of three bands: The Corona Brothers, American Made and Northern Charm. This event is rain or shine. There will be covered stadium seating or people are invited to bring their own lawn chairs. Margaritas and Corona beer will be available. Tickets are $10 in advance. The summer reading program kicks off at Dyer Library with “The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow” on June 27 from 11 a.m. to noon. The reading features 20 of our hand-crafted mouth and rod puppets and some shadow puppetry. The length of show is approximately fifty minutes long and is recommended for ages 4 and up. The show will be held in the CK Burns gym. There will also be a yard sale fundraiser on June 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds of the sale benefit the programs offered at the Dyer Library/Saco Museum. The Dyer Library/Saco Museum is seeking donations of gently used, family friendly goods to sell at the yard sale. Donations can be dropped off starting on June 13 at the library. They ask that no one donate cribs, mattresses, car seats, upholstered furniture or appliances. Volunteers are also needed to sort, price, set up and work at the sale.
