The Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off its 83rd season with the Broadway musical comedy “Sister Act,” on stage through June 20. The musical is based on the hit Whoopi Goldberg film about a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in a convent. The playhouse welcomes Broadway’s Rashidra Scott in the role of Deloris Van Cartier. Mad Horse Theatre presents the 6th “By Local” play series. The upcoming series will take place Jun 4-8. “The Scarlett Letter,” a musical, will appear Thursday, June 4 and Saturday June 6. “Vision” will be shown Friday, June 5 and Monday, June 8. There will be no show on Sunday, June 7. All performances will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Mad Horse Theater, 24 Mosher St. in South Portland. “The Full Monty” will be on stage at Maine State Music Theatre from June 3-20. The theater will hold “A Peek Behind The Curtain: The Full Monty” at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick on June 10 at noon. This discussion is free and panel participants will include actors, administrative staff, technical staff and members of the creative team. Audience participants will have an opportunity to learn about each member of the panel and ask questions about their involvement in the production. Audience members are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch for the event. Maine State Music Theatre is located at Pickard Theatre on the Bowdoin College Campus in Brunswick. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit entitled “Everything You Know Is True: New Work and Invoked Discourse” on Friday, May 29 from 5-9 p.m. at Engine, 265 Main St. in Biddeford. The exhibit will display the work of Kimberly Convery, whose work consists of a series of drawings, writings and three-dimensional forms. The exhibit will run from May 29 through July 25.

The Biddeford+Saco ArtWalk will take place Friday, May 29, 5-8 p.m. Many businesses in each city’s downtown’s are stops on the walk. Pick up a map at any of the participating venues, and check out the creative scene while exploring the downtowns. The Sanford Art Association has announced the first annual Sanford Art Walk on Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sanford’s downtown businesses will be sponsoring artists. The artists will display work using a variety of mediums which will include sculpture, oil paintings, watercolor, woodworking, pottery, pressed flowers and mixed media. Maps for the walking tour may be picked up at The Sanford Art Gallery, 917 Main St. next to City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce. The SAA Gallery will also have 17 artists displaying work. “Sculpted Spaces, Historic Places,” a juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture, opens at Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, N.H., and the Sarah Orne Jewett House and Visitor Center in South Berwick on June 5. The exhibit was organized by two regional cultural organizations Historic New England and the New England Sculptors Association. The exhibit presents forty-three sculptures from thirty-six artists working in granite, marble, metal, stone, tile, wood, and other material. The work will be on display in the historic rooms at Governor John Langdon House and on the grounds at both Langdon House and Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum and Visitor Center. The work of artist Lisa Roderick will be on display at the Wells Public Library for the month of June. There will be a free reception on Saturday, June 6 at 11 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and the artist will answer questions. Lisa Roderick is a resident of Ogunquit, and has been oil painting since 2009. She won third prize in the 37th Annual Ogunquit Sidewalk Art Show after painting for only two months, and is a member of the Maine Women in the Arts Association. “Paintings of Rescue Dogs” by Rachel Michaud will be on display at the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus Center from June 4 through July 2. A graphic designer by trade, Michaud is the volunteer web master of the Pixel Fund, a nonprofit organization in Maine dedicated to saving the lives of shelter pets through education, advocacy, rescue efforts and participation in community events. The Tri City Community Chorus presents their spring concert featuring “Gospel Mass” by Robert Ray. The concert will take place on Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at the First Parish Church, 12 Beach St. in Saco. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door; $8 in advance and $10 at the door for seniors and students; $5 for children ages 6-12; and children under the age of 5 get in for free. DaPonte String Quartet’s upcoming concert series entitled “Short and Sweet” will feature the music of seven composers through June 5. There is an evening performance on June 5 at the Wells-Ogunquit Meetinghouse, 938 Post Road in Wells and a matinee at 3 p.m. on May 24 in Topsham at the Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church, 84 Main St. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.DaPonte.org, Maine Coast Books in Damariscotta, Longfellow Books in Portland and Gulf of Maine Books in Brunswick. The 21st annual Chamber Music Festival will take place on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 at the Ogunquit Performing Arts at the Dunaway Center, 23 School St. in Ogunquit. Both performances take place at 8 p.m. Receptions to meet the musicians will follow. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door and $5 for students. The program features world-class musicians of Boston Chamber Music and Cascabel Trio.

“The Town That Refused to Die,” will be shown as part of the Sanford International Film Festival on Thursday, May 28 at the Historical Museum from 6-9 p.m. The Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum is located at 505 Main St. in Springvale. “The Town that Refused to Die” concerns the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce to attract new industries and businesses to Sanford following the closure of Goodall-Sanford in 1954.
