PORTLAND (AP) — Maine officials have less than a week to provide a financial impact statement that a pro-marijuana group needs to begin collecting signatures for its petition.

Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol wants to ask voters if they want to legalize recreational marijuana use. The group is backed by the national Marijuana Policy Project.

State officials from the Maine Office of Fiscal and Program Review have until June 2 to provide the financial statement about the group’s petition. The group’s petition can then be finalized. The group signed off on its final language May 11.
