WATERBORO — Two men remained incarcerated at York County Jail on Thursday in connection with the armed robbery of a popular coffee shop on Route 202 Monday night.

Adam Jalbert, 27, of Waterboro and Coty McGahey, 30, of Saco were arrested and charged with robbery after authorities caught up with the pair on Tuesday.

No one was hurt and the robber didn’t get any cash. Sheriff William King in a telephone interview  on Thursday morning said the woman who was working at the drive-through window at Aroma Joe’s stepped away from the window and called police — and that the robber ran away.

Deputies were called to the coffee shop at 2048 Main St. (Route 202) at 8:45 p.m. on Monday. When they arrived, King said deputies were told that a suspicious vehicle was in the area just prior to a man walking up to the drive-through window, where he displayed a knife and demanded money.

Maine State Police brought in a tracking dog that night, but the track ended and police theorize that the perpetrator got into a waiting vehicle parked nearby, and that the pair drove away.

“Sheriff’s deputies issued a notification to other departments providing a possible description of vehicle and suspects,” said King in a statement. “Video surveillance provided many viable leads.”

King said a Maine State Police trooper stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one police were looking for near the location of the robbery on Tuesday.

Police allege McGahey was the man who approached the drive-through window armed with a knife, while they believe Jalbert drove the get-away vehicle.

The men made a first court appearance Wednesday by video link from York County Jail in Alfred, where bail for Jalbert was set at $10,000 cash or $50,000 real estate. McGahey’s bail was set at $15,000 cash, the sheriff said. Neither man was able to make bail and remained incarcerated on Thursday.

Both men are scheduled to appear Nov. 15 at York County Superior Court in Alfred.
