OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach baseball team failed to get on the scoreboard in the first inning, but the Seagulls would score in the next four frames on their way to an 11-1 win in five innings over visiting Buckfield on Thursday.
The Seagulls put two runs on the board in the second and one in the third before exploding for six runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead.
OOB, which allowed a run to Buckfield in the top of the fourth, would then add on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to enforce the 10-run rule.
The Seagulls (1-0) got an impressive start from pitcher Logan Melnik, who went the complete game giving up just two hits and no walks while striking out seven.
At the plate, the Seagulls were led by Dylan Creswell and Evan O’Donnell, who each had two hits. Creswell knocked in three runs, while O’Donnell drove home two.
Thomas Fregeau and Jon Gillis had the only other hits for OOB, which also got one RBI each from Melnik, Sam Custeau, Gillis and Kyle Allen.
Gillis, Melnik, Allen and Brian Davis also added one steal apiece for the Seagulls.
