OLD ORCHARD BEACH — A local man was arrested for operating under the influence after a collision with an Amtrak Downeaster early Thursday morning.
Police responded to a call at the intersection of the train tracks and Union Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Old Orchard Beach Lieutenant Timothy Deluca.
The passenger train had collided with the rear of an SUV. The driver of the SUV, Brendan Connolly, 35, of Old Orchard Beach was arrested for operating under the influence, said Deluca.
In addition to Connolly, there were two passengers in the car; the passenger in the rear seat of the car was thrown from the car, seriously injured and taken to Maine Medical Center, according to Deluca. He said the vehicle sustained extensive damage.
