SACO — A Biddeford man has been arrested and charged in relation to an alleged stabbing on Winter Street earlier this month.
Saco and Biddeford police officers arrested Nicholas Birkemose, 27, early Monday afternoon at the Thatcher Hotel on Main Street in Biddeford, where he was living, and charged him with elevated aggravated assault, according to a press release from Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland.
Dete-ctives identified Birke-mose as a person of interest early on in the investigation of a March 14 stabbing, according to Holland. On March 14, police responded to a reported of alleged aggravated assault at 14 Winter St. A 25-year-old mad had a non-life threatening stab wound to his upper body and was transported to Maine Medical Center by the Saco Fire Department for treatment, according to Holland.
Birkemose was unable to post the $2,500 cash bail and was later transported to the York County Jail in Alfred. He is scheduled to appear at the York County Superior Court on May 14 at 8:30 a.m.
