FRISCO, TX — The Maine Red Claws surged out to a big first half lead, then held on for a 123-114 win over the Texas Legends Saturday night. The win is the 30th for the Red Claws this season (30-14).
The Red Claws tied a team record with 35 assists in the game. Tim Frazier (13 points, 16 assists) finished one shy of a Red Claws franchise record for assists in a game. Omari Johnson led the Red Claws with 26 points and 11 rebounds off the bench, and Romero Osby continued his strong week with 23 points and 10 boards.
Maine had clinched a playoff spot Friday night, thanks to a win by the Iowa Energy over Fort Wayne. Tonight, the Claws’ magic number to clinch the Atlantic Division dropped to three with Maine’s win and Canton’s loss.
The Red Claws outscored Texas 39-17 in the first quarter, and led by as many as 24 points in the first half. Texas (20-24) made a run in the third, but Maine controlled its possessions and hit crucial free throws down the stretch.
Maine’s road trip continues Wednesday night at Erie, before the Red Claws return home Friday against Westchester.
