The Social Services Committee voted 4-1 against awarding any money out of this year’s budget to our food pantries. Why? Because they wouldn’t comply with a forced merge? 580 families were helped last month alone. People who didn’t choose their lot in life but for whatever unfortunate circumstances, find themselves going to food pantries to feed their families ”“ their children! Think of that, committee members when you go freely to the grocery store and purchase your steak, chicken, hamburg, vegetables, etc. When you sit down at your dinner table, breakfast table or go “out” to lunch to your favorite lunch spot and “fill up.” Shame follows you now.
Who do our council members work for and who pays their salaries?

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
