WELLS — A portion of the Wells Public Library’s snow-covered roof has partially collapsed, according to a press release sent out by Town Manager Jon Carter on Thursday.
Earlier this week, after library staff noticed that a section of the roof was sagging, the town was notified, and it sent a structural engineer to review the situation.
As of Thursday afternoon, workers planned to remove the snow from the roof this morning and cut a hole in the damaged area, so that the structural engineer as well as a contractor can determine whether or not the roof trusses have failed. The two will then determine the extent of the repairs needed.
According to the press release, the town has insurance on the building to cover any repairs.
Firefighters from Wells and Ogunquit also responded to the incident.
The library, at 1434 Post Road, will be closed today; officials hope to schedule its reopening once the damage is assessed and a plan for repairs is put in place.
