SACO — Lorraine Alice (Houde) Lafortune, 85, of Saco, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born in Biddeford on March 9, 1929, a daughter of Adelard and Marianne (Boissonneault) Houde. She was educated in Biddeford parochial schools.

On Feb. 5, 1949, she married Rene R. Lafortune in Biddeford.

She was employed for many years as a meat-wrapper at Edward’s Market and Colombia Market in Biddeford. She then moved on to becoming the best “sandwich lady” at Hurrell’s Market and Sandwich Shack in Saco until her retirement in 2001.

She enjoyed playing games on her computer and shopping online. Most of all, she loved to spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by: her husband of 35 years, Rene R. Lafortune in 1984; and by one brother, Arthur Houde.

She is survived by: one daughter, Claire Thomas and her husband Peter of Saco; and two sons, Richard Lafortune and his wife Sonya of Saco, and Scott Lafortune and his wife Denise of Arundel; seven grandchildren, Mondae Lizotte and husband Joe, Erik Jeffers and his wife Dede, Brian Jeffers and his wife Nicole, Tanya Dussault, Crystal Lafortune and her fiancée Jeff Foran, Bethany O’Neill and her husband Patrick, and Jeffrey Lafortune and Kaylee Lafortune; one step-granddaughter, Monica Weeks; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, with a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco.

Burial will be in the spring in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
