On Tuesday, demolition of the American Motel in Old Orchard Beach took place. The building had been devastated by fire on Tuesday. The State Fire Marshall said the cause was arson The blaza is still under investigation. Property owner George Kerr said he had been working with the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department to have a controlled fire for training purposes. Kerr plans to develop a more than 300-slot parking lot on the property. He said the demolition is an estimated $50,000 in unanticipated costs.
