OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Clarence L. “Jr.” Botting, 78, of Old Orchard Beach, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born Dec. 30, 1936 in Smyrna Mills,, the only child of Clarence O. and Amy (Mitchell) Botting.

He came to this area at the age of 5 and was educated locally, graduating from Old Orchard Beach High School with the class of 1956. He went on to attend Southern Maine Vocational and Technical Institute.

Mr. Botting served with the National Guard for four years.

On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Nancy Lemire at St. Mary’s Church in Biddeford.

Mr. Botting had been employed in the Portland area as an electrician, retiring Jan. 1, 1999.

He had been a member of the local Elks Club, ISOR and the Prime Time Ski Club at Sunday River. In the past he had been an avid outdoorsman, enjoying skiing, biking, kayaking and hiking.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Botting; two sons, Bill Botting and his wife Karen, and Ken Botting and his wife Elena, all of Old Orchard Beach; and three granddaughters, Katlin, Jenica and Olivia Botting.

Visiting hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 at St. Margaret’s Church in Old Orchard Beach. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Clarence Botting to support cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
