BIDDEFORD — Agnes V. Gagnon, 83, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at St. Andre’s Health Care in Biddeford, following a long illness.

She was born April 1, 1931 in Biddeford, a daughter of Ernest and Aurore (Casavant) Desmarais, and was educated locally, graduating from Biddeford High School in the Class of 1949.

On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Raymond F. Gagnon at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford.

Agnes was a librarian at McArthur library, where she was able to inspire children to acquire a love of reading. She enjoyed music, walking and following sports of all kinds.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: a brother, Ovid Desmarais, in 1998; a sister, Arline Barth, in 2005; and a sister, Violet Masse, in 2009.

She is survived by: her husband of 64 years, Raymond F. Gagnon of Biddeford; two sons, Ronald Gagnon and his wife Rebecca of Biddeford and Donald Gagnon and his wife Norma of Saco; three grandchildren, Laura, Sarah and Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Payton; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Anne’s Chapel of St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
