BRUNSWICK — Isabelle Susan K. Wendelken, 85, formerly of Saco, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at a local hospital Nov. 29, 2014.

Isabelle was born June 10, 1929 in Biddeford, the daughter of David Alfred and Elsa Marie Nyden Kennedy.

She graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco and worked for Saco Lowell.

She married Frederick Wendelken Jr. on June 27, 1953 and lived in Saco, before moving to Bath, and finally settling in Brunswick.

She worked in the Brunswick school system for many years. In her retirement Issy enjoyed reading, was a huge Bruins fan, and enjoyed playing bingo with a special group of friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, walking the beach, playing cribbage, and visiting. Issy also loved her weekend rides with family.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Fred; and a brother, Batey H. “Bud” Kennedy.

She is survived by: her three daughters, Dorothy Ann Wendelken and her husband Mark Hatfield of Lee, N.H., Nancy Clift and her husband Bruce of Standish, Pamela June O’Brien and her husband Craig of Bowdoin; two brothers Alfred Kennedy and his wife Lois and David Kennedy and his wife Judy, all of California; a sister-in-law Joanne Kennedy of South Carolina; three granddaughters, Leah Susan O’Brien, Hannah Margaret O’Brien, and Alison Nicole Clift; one grandson, Samuel Frederick Clift; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their grateful thanks for the loving and thoughtful care Isabelle received over the last years of her life from her friends at Pejepscot Terrace, and to staff at Thornton Hall, Freeport Place, and Hawthorne House.
