KENNEBUNK — Thanksgiving is coming soon, and those who help look out for the hungry say there are families county-wide that need help providing a holiday meal.

Megan Gendron of York County Shelter Programs, based in Alfred, estimates the shelter will hand out 2,000 boxes of food this holiday season.

And while many frozen holiday turkeys and fixings have been secured, there’s still a gap, and so a Kennebunk couple is hosting a turkey drive to help. It’s something they’ve done for the last six years.

Diane Denk and Roger Hansen are asking folks to drop off frozen turkeys and more at their home at 32 Rivers Edge Drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday or 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Folks are asked to call the couple at 604-0838 or 967-8302 or email [email protected] for directions.

They’re looking for 10- to 12-pound frozen turkeys, boxed stuffing, canned cranberry sauce, vegetables and gravy. And because folks still need food after Thanksgiving, some dried pasta and canned sauce as well.

Don’t have time to shop? Checks are welcome, too, made out to York County Shelter Programs and mailed to P.O. Box 820, Alfred, ME 04002. Folks should write “Thanksgiving Drive” on the memo line.
