PORTLAND (AP) — A group that wants to bolster Maine’s clean election law is collecting signatures today.
More than 800 volunteers with Maine Citizens for Clean Elections will be collecting petitions at more than 200 polling locations.
The proposed legislation is aimed at increasing transparency and bolstering accountability. Program Director BJ McCollister says the proposal would increase fines and penalties for those who violate campaign finance reporting requirements. It also would require disclosure of top donors in campaign advertising and require reporting for inaugural and transition committee fundraising for governors-elect.
