KITTERY — Hunter McDonnell scored two goals to lead Wells past Traip Academy 4-2 in a Western Maine Conference boys soccer game on Wednesday afternoon.
Alec Pinette and Liam Bell also scored for Wells. Both of Traip’s goals were scored by Alex Bailey.
Rangers (1-7-2) goalie Sam Emerson made 14 saves, while Chandler Bridge had four stops for the Warriors (3-6-2).
Girls Soccer
Thornton Academy 12, McAuley 0
PORTLAND — Haley DaGraca scored a hat trick and Katherin Gillespie, Cassidy Cochrane and Jessica Haskey all scored two goals each as Thornton Academy (9-1) cruised past McAuley (2-6-2) in an SMAA girls soccer game on Wednesday afternoon.
Tori Daigle, Erin Tangney and Katie McCrum also found the back of the net for the Golden Trojans, who held a 23-5 edge in shots on goal.
Marshwood 5, Sanford 0
SOUTH BERWICK — Natalie DuBois and Marin Smith each scored a goal in either half to lead Marshwood past Sanford in an SMAA girls soccer game on Wednesday afternoon.
DuBois scored the opener just 3:13 in and assisted on Marin Smith’s goal 16 minutes later.
Sydney Jackman added a goal with an assist by Reagan Nichols with 14:31 left in the first half, and DBbois and Smith scored unassisted second-half goals to make it a 5-0 final.
Sanford (3-7-1) goalie Nikki Perez made 19 saves, with Marshwood (7-1-1) goalie Emily Robida making eight stops.
Field Hockey
Marshwood 3, Massabesic 1
WATERBORO — Claudia Folger scored twice to lead Marshwood past Massabesic in an SMAA field hockey game on Wednesday afternoon.
Folger scored 8:24 into he game to put the Hawks (11-1) on the board, and then scored a goal assisted by Taylor Schoff with 4:53 left in the first half.
Schoff scored with 20:15 remaining to make it 3-0 before Sophia LaFrance scored with an assist by Kaylee St. Laurent with 3:28 left in the game.
Kelley Wescott made eight saves for the Mustangs (3-6-3), while Marshwood’s goalie Cassidy Smith had to make two stops.
Golf
SOUTH PORTLAND — Thornton Academy won the SMAA golf team championship today on Wednesday at Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland. T.A. shot a combined score of 196, beating out Scarborough (212) and Marshwood (221).
