SACO — Thornton Academy clinched its first SMAA central division golf title since 2009 with a 9-4 victory over Gorham on Thursday at Biddeford-Saco Country Club.

Hashilla Rivai and Greg Kalagias both shot low scores of 37 to win their matches for the Golden Trojans, who also got wins from Noah Jacques and Lauren Wells.

Thornton shot an overall total of 197 to Gorham’s 207.

Kennebunk 10.5, Sanford 2.5

KENNEBUNK — Connor Shillington shot a low score of 45 as Kennebunk topped Sanford in an SMAA golf match on Thursday at Webhannet.

Joe Beaudoin, Ryan Guevin and Skye Crump also won matches for the Rams, who shot an overall 248 to Sanford’s 269.

Jordan D’allessandro won his match with a team-low score of 48 for the Spartans.

Massabesic 11, Noble 2

ARUNDEL — Caleb Roy shot a low score of 44 as Massabesic downed Noble in an SMAA golf match on Thursday at Dutch Elm.

Cape Elizabeth 6, Wells 1

CAPE ELIZABETH — Reese McFarlane shot a low score of 36 as Cape Elizabeth won five of the day’s six matches to top Wells in a Western Maine Conference match at Purpoodock.

Michael Best, George Mackenzie, Devon Forde and Bryce Hewitt also won matches for the Capers, who shot a total score of 167 to the Warriors’ 189.

Cole Greaves won his match for the Warriors’ lone point.

Field Hockey

Thornton Academy 4, Windham 1

SACO — Thornton Academy got goals from four different players to beat Windham in an SMAA field hockey game on Thursday night at Hill Stadium.

Thornton’s Libby Pomlereau started the scoring with an unassisted goal 2:08 into the game, followed by a Karaghan Curran goal assisted by Ashley Houp two minutes later.

Desi Bracamonte made it 3-0 with 12:05 left in the second half on a goal assisted by Taylor Ouellette, and Allie Romprey upped the lead to four less than three minutes later by scoring on a reverse shot.

Olivia Verrill ended the scoring with a consolation strike for Windham.

Grace Sawyer stopped 14 shots for the Eagles (3-7), while Isabella Capozzi made six stops for the Trojans (7-3).

Sanford 3, Bonny Eagle 0

SANFORD — Sanford pitched a shutout to beat Bonny Eagle in an SMAA field hockey game on Thursday night at Goodall Park.

Marissa Nance scored unassisted 7:03 into the game for the Spartans (7-3), who then got another 11 minutes later as Liz Helmreich scored off a feed from Makayla Garvin.

Allison L’Heureux then finished the scoring with an unassisted second-half goal. Sarah Goldthwaite stopped all four of the Scots’ (1-9) shots.

Massabesic 1, Deering 1

WATERBORO — Emma Rutledge scored an equalizer with 18:47 to play to earn Massabesic a draw with Deering in an SMAA field hockey game on Thursday.

Mackenzie Cote had scored off a feed from Mia Thurston to give Deering a 1-0 lead with 1:11 left in the first.

The Mustangs’ (3-4-3) Kelley Wescott and the Rams’ (4-4-2) Lillian Frager each made five saves.

Thornton Academy 4, Sanford 0

SACO — Simon Trcka scored a first-half hat trick as Thornton Academy (7-1-2) cruised past Sanford (2-7-1) in an SMAA boys soccer game on Thursday at Hill Stadium.

Dalton Moore also scored for the Trojans on a penalty kick.

Cape Elizabeth 2, Kennebunk 1

KENNEBUNK — Griffen Thoreck and Cole Caswell scored first-half goals as Cape Elizabeth knocked off Kennebunk in a Western Maine Conference boys soccer game on Thursday at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium.

Andrew Radomski scored a second-half goal with an assist from Spencer Thibodeau.

Tyler Dickinson made nioe saves for the Rams (5-4), while Andrew Kelly made six stops for the Capers (5-2-1).

Cheverus 6, Massabesic 0

WATERBORO — Cheverus scored three goals in each half to top Massabesic in an SMAA boys soccer game on Thursday night.

Brady Levesque, Matt Lapoint and Andrei Vile scored in the first half for the Stags (5-3), who got two more goals from Levesque in the second half before Ben Peterson finished the scoring.

Massabesic (0-9) goalie Tyler Stinson made eight saves, while Jake Tomkinson made five saves for Cheverus.
