AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine’s Democratic House Speaker is heading to Washington to meet with the state’s congressional delegation about a plan to aid Maine’s aging population.
House Speaker Mark Eves of North Berwick will meet with Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King as well as Reps. Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud on Tuesday.
The package of bills that Eves plans to introduce next session, if he’s re-elected, includes a $65 million bond to build 1,000 senior apartments, a measure to boost tax credits for some Mainers and a bill to increase Medicaid reimbursements for home workers.
The Democrat is being joined on the trip with by several others, including Jess Maurer of the Maine Council on Aging and Jeff Hecker, provost of the University of Maine at Orono.
