“Andrew Wyeth: The Linda L. Bean Collection” will show through Oct. 31 at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art in Ogunquit. This collection celebrates the art of Andrew Wyeth, one of Maine’s best-known painters, through a collection assembled by Linda Bean of the L.L. Bean family of Freeport.
Capriccio 2014, Ogunquit’s 24th annual festival of the arts, will run Sept. 1-14, sponsored by Ogunquit Performing Arts. The festival features two weeks of cultural events all around town. OPA’s featured event for Capriccio 2014 takes place on Saturday night, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Dunaway Center with the performance by Occidental Gypsy, a band that complements original material with expertly arranged “gypsified” covers. Woven works by Andrea Williams, of Exeter, N.H., will be featured at Just Us Chickens Gallery throughout the month of September. Artist Sarah Baldwin’s two-day drawing installation event, “territory*wetlands” will be hosted by Engine, 265 Main St. in Biddeford, from Sept. 12-13, from 2-6 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Baldwin, who is supported by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, explores New England’s coastal wetlands in a series of ink studies and new media works. The 200 for $200 show will take place at the Barn Gallery as the Ogunquit Art Association artists offer small works for a fixed price. An organ concert with Ray Cornils will be offered Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at the United Baptist Church, 318 Main St., Saco. Cornils, who is the Portland municipal organist, will perform on Saco’s own historic Shannon Memorial Organ. Admission is $10. Call 283-3411 for more information.
A string trio will perform Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum, with trios for violin, cello and piano by Franz Joseph Haydn, Maurice Ravel and Robert Schumann. The trio includes violinist Patrick Doane; cellist, Benjamin Noyes; and pianist Anastasia Antonacos. The museum, which is handicap accessible, is located at 505 Main St. in Springvale. The Alumni Band and the Italian Heritage Center Concert Band will perform a Remembrance Concert on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, 12 Beach St., Saco. All police, fire, emergency and military personnel and veterans are invited to attend this concert, which is also held to honor local first responders. There will be a freewill offering with proceeds going to the Saco Food Pantry. Also, concert-goers are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the concert to help stock the shelves at the food pantry.
Jennifer Porter will be in concert at the Saco River Theatre in Bar Mills on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Celebrate the release of her new album, “Easy Living,” co-produced with Grammy Award-winning engineer Lawrence Manchester. Portland Greenfest will feature music, art, eco-fashion, local food, kids’ activities, exhibits, workshops, eco-poetry, films and demonstrations, on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Monument Square in Portland. The Natural Resources Council of Maine is the lead sponsor of the coinciding Eco-Film Festival, a free film series that features films on local foods, river restoration, upcycled art, waste reduction and the popular children’s film, “The Lorax,” at different venues around downtown Portland. Leavitt Theatre, 259 Main St., Ogunquit, will host a summer silent film series with live music featuring comedies and dramas from the early days of cinema. Most screenings will be on Thursday evenings at 8 p.m., with a Tarzan double feature including “Tarzan and the Golden Lion” on Sept. 18. Cirque du Soleil will present “Varekai,” written and directed by Dominic Champagne, at the Cross Center Arena (formerly the Civic Center) in Portland, Sept. 3-7. This production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, with an international cast of 50.
The Barn Gallery’s 13th season of Art Videos at the Gallery features a film every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Barn Gallery, Bourne Lane at Shore Road in Ogunquit. Admission is free. The inaugural River Jam Festival, a weekend of music, will take place Sept. 26-28. The weekend will include an all-day outdoor stage on Saturday, music events during Friday night’s ArtWalk, the third annual Oak and the Ax Fest, as well as a Fringe Fest with music in many downtown venues throughout the weekend. The Heart of Biddeford is partnering with the Oak and the Ax, the Pepperell Mill Campus, Engine, City Theater and the University of New England to host the weekend.
