PORTLAND — The Maine Red Claws announced today that Mike Taylor will not be returning for the 2014-15 season to resume his duties as head coach. As previously reported, Taylor is currently in Poland serving as head coach of the country’s senior men’s national team.

“On both a personal and professional level, we loved having Mike as our coach,” stated Red Claws owner and chairman, Bill Ryan, Jr. “Mike’s passion for the game of basketball and his relentless positivity shone through to our players and fans. We wish him great success.”

In his two seasons in Maine, Taylor amassed a record of 45-55 (.450). During the 2012-13 season, Coach Taylor led the Red Claws to the franchise’s first ever playoff berth, and was selected to coach the Futures Team at the 2013 NBA D-League All-Star Game in Houston, a game that also featured five Red Claws players. There were a total of four players that received GATORADE Call-Ups during Taylor’s time in Maine, most recently Chris Babb (Boston) and Chris Wright (Milwaukee) during the 2013-14 season. Taylor’s 45 wins is tied for most in franchise history with Maine’s first head coach, Austin Ainge.

The Boston Celtics, Maine’s NBA affiliate, will begin the process of identifying the Red Claws’ next head coach this summer, per the terms of the two teams’ hybrid agreement.
