AUBURN (AP) — A second man charged with murder in connection with the slaying of a Lewiston man whose body was dumped in a stream in Monmouth has pleaded not guilty.
William True, who had been charged with hindering the investigation into the April 2013 beating and strangulation death of Romeo Parent, was indicted on a murder charge Wednesday. He was arraigned on Friday.
True’s lawyer said his client’s indictment on the more serious charge is “unfortunate and unfair and based on some very tenuous evidence.”
The Lewston Sun Journal reports that Michael McNaughton is currently on trial on a murder charge in the 20-year-old Parent’s death.
Authorities have said that the suspects wanted Parent dead because he was a “snitch” who had told police about True’s involvement in a burglary.
