OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Eugene S. “Gene” Marquis passed away from natural causes on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on June 24, 1928 in the town of St. David, a son of Eloi J. Marquis and Grace (Tardiff) Marquis. Gene was the youngest of 14 children, and was raised on a farm in Birch Pointe.

At the age of 18, Gene was drafted into the service. He served four years in the Air Force, based in England. Following the conclusion of his tour of duty, Gene moved to Connecticut and began a 40-year career with New Britain Machine as a machinist.

Following his retirement, Gene moved to Old Orchard Beach, where he lived out his life amongst the loving presence of his family and friends.

He enjoyed walking the beach, gardening and volunteering at the local food pantry. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Marquis was a parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church in Old Orchard Beach.

He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Sylvia (Lizzott) Marquis; his second wife, Lucille (Clavette) Marquis; his son, Eugene S. Marquis II; and his son-in-law, Peter Wilcox.

Gene is survived by: his daughters, Linda Bechard and her husband Phil, Diana Wilcox, and Mary Ann Griffin and her husband Doug; son, Richard A. Marquis; as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Gene was surrounded by family and friends. It was these relationships that inspired Gene’s kindness each and every day, and his family, on his behalf, would like to thank you for all your love and friendship throughout his life. Gene lived a richer life because of you, and we have too because of Gene.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at St. Margaret’s Church, Good Shepherd Parish, in Old Orchard Beach. Entombment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
