GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A scuba diver from Everett has died after experiencing what police describe as “some type of medical emergency” while diving off the coast of Gloucester.
Police say 38-year-old Gregg O’Brien was with a group of 40 or more others as part of a diving workshop and drysuit demonstration on Saturday at Stage Fort Park.
Police tell the Gloucester Daily Times that O’Brien had been diving but surfaced around 1:30 p.m., crying out for help.
He was helped to shore by fellow divers and bystanders, and they attempted to administer CPR.
He was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death remains under investigation.
