YORK — The York Senior Center signed on this week as the fourth Memory Cafe in the Kittery and York area to serve people with dementia. The center will start hosting a cafe on the first Tuesday of every month at 11 a.m., and will include soup.

“One of our hopes has been to provide a cafe a week for people with dementia, cognitive impairments or memory loss in each community we serve,” said Robin Cogger of the York Senior Center.

The second Tuesday of each month will be at the Memory Cafe at Sentry Hill in York Harbor at 11 a.m. The third Wednesday of every month will be hosted at The Gathering Place at 12:30 p.m. with lunch provided by York Hospital. The fourth Tuesday of each month is at A Perfect Move at 11 a.m. Bright yellow signs will indicate the location of each cafe.

This is only the second set of cafes in the country that are coordinated to provide consecutive, weekly opportunities for people with memory issues to get together. The cafes not only provide food but also are an opportunity to exchange information and learn about dementia care services in the area. Patrons, caregivers, providers and supporters of the dementia care community are welcome.
