Pictured are St. James School students participating in a monthly exchange with the Good Shepherd Sisters at St. Joseph Convent. Each month, students from grades pre-K to 8, along with an advisor and several parents, visit the convent to sing, share stories and do seasonal crafts with the sisters, many of whom are retired teachers. The students originally had planned to visit several facilities, but developed a special bond with the sisters and decided to make all of their visits to the convent. The students plan to rename their after-school group, originally dubbed “Students to Seniors,” to “Students to Sisters.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
